Building the AssetTech Community

Pulak Sinha and Ann Eberle Thomas: Founders, On Pepper

Bringing together two elements of what we love makes working at Pepper a thrill every day. We started the company to help the Asset Management industry embrace Cloud-Native technologies and data in order to produce returns, manage risk, and simplify complexity.  Along the way, we realized that what we were in fact doing is building a community around the concept of AssetTech. Now, each day, we think of both as convergent items.

Even a cursory look at the industry yields some remarkable statistics. Worldwide, $120 trillion is managed by Asset Managers. Several firms manage over $1 trillion of Assets. “Growth” areas within Asset Management, like Alternatives and Secondaries, are measured in the hundreds of billions or trillions.

As these numbers grow, so too does complexity; of asset classes, regulation, and allocation. Deal-flow is high and it takes a combination of art and science to work one’s way through the complexity.

We understood that data would be core to this journey and that a platform-approach would be core to organizations’ ability to harness data. We also understood that Asset Management firms consist of very busy people with a set of systems and investments that they use every day- to suggest that they look at what we built was only fair if we had something of real and realizable value to offer.

We have been thrilled to be affirmed in this by the AssetTech community. Our customers, partners, and prospective connections have told us in a loud voice that they want us to keep investing in the community and to, together, enhance, modernize, and embrace the industry and the challenges/opportunities it faces.

We love our customers. And our community. We are focused on serving both as we learn, grow, and innovate.
